SCRA's Corporate Plan 2008-11

Wednesday 08 October 2008

This Corporate Plan is intended to prepare SCRA for the developments in the Children’s Hearings System set out by Government.  We welcome the opportunity to prepare for a modernised and strengthened Children’s Hearings System.

With very significant contributions from partner agencies, we have seen in 2007/08 a welcome reduction in the number of children referred but there has also been an increase in the number of Hearings taking place and, for the first time in many years, what appears now to be a trend towards increasing numbers of children subject to Supervision Requirements.  This increase in complexity will continue to represent challenges to SCRA and our partners.

There is currently a wide range of initiatives aimed at supporting children and families, particularly the most vulnerable.  SCRA will play its full part in the implementation of the entire range of policy initiatives and strongly supports the integrated and outcome based approach that is being taken.  We will work with partners to see this reflected in community planning arrangements and, particularly, integrated children’s services plans.  We are keen to play our part in ensuring that the Children’s Hearings System is responsive to communities.

The Scottish Children’s Hearings System is about to enter its most extensive change process since its inception.  We are determined to ensure that we develop the system in a way that meets the needs of Scotland’s children, families and communities and that it has the confidence of Scotland’s people.
